“Giuliani time” in Israel?

Rudy to the rescue?
Rudolph Giuliani offered to help Israel fight crime.

“I am prepared to help you but it would have to be done on a clandestine basis, not publicly and not through a newspaper,” the former New York City mayor said Tuesday when asked by Yediot Achronot about recent calls by Israeli authorities to emulate his law-enforcement policies, which curbed crime in New York City. Giuliani noted that during his time as mayor, New York had 55 police officers for every 10,000 citizens, more than twice the figure in Israel.

Asked about plans by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to boost Israel’s police force, Giuliani stressed that it’s important for new personnel to undergo adequate training, but speculated that mandatory military service in Israel would help.

“One supposes that training someone who was in the military would be quicker and better,” he told the newspaper

Meanwhile, according to the Jerusalem Post, the thuggish Israeli Border Police are being shifted away from fighting “terror” to fighting crime in Israeli inner cities, a clear acknowledgement that Palestinian violent resistance is significantly reduced.

  1. That’s pretty funny
    From WW4 REPORT #91:

Among the forgotten ugly incidents in Giulaini’s past was the 1986 arrest of Simon Berger, a Jewish Long Island lock manufacturer and Nazi concentration camp survivor, by Rudy’s staff as US Attorney for Manhattan. As Berger, a mail fraud suspect, was being held at Giulaini’s offices at the New York City federal building, some of Rudy’s agents seated him facing a blackboard, Berger later told investigators. Written on the blackboard, Berger said, were the German words “ARBEIT MACHT FREI,” the slogan which adorned the entrance to the Auschwitz death camp. Berger was acquitted of all charges.

Also conveniently forgotten are the charges of anti-Semitism that were leveled against Giuliani in his high-profile crackdown on Wall Street insider trading as US Attorney in the 1980s–in which every one of the brokers he ordered arrested and marched out of their offices in handcuffs happened to be Jewish.

Finally, it is also apparently forgotten that Giuliani at one time ran his own concentration camp. In 1981, as number-three man in the Reagan Justice Department, Giuliani headed the program of forcibly detaining thousands of Haitian refugees behind barbed wire at Camp Krome, a Florida military base, where overcrowding and appalling conditions quickly drew protest from human rights organizations.

Of course, if he takes the position, we can look forward to the predictable spectacle of Rudy squaking that Palestinian terrorists are trying to abduct him, as Colombian guerillas allegedly did when he was anti-crime czar of Mexico City.
