The unprecedented 24-day occupation of Taiwan's legislative chamber by student protesters was ostensibly to demand procedural transparency in the passage of a free trade deal with China. But the Sunflower Movement actually touches on questions of Taiwan's sovereignty, and whether a pro-independence anti-capitalist position is possible now that China is itself thoroughly post-socialist. Taiwanese activist and scholar Wen Liu explores.
