Jim Lobe on InterPress Service informs us that Israeli pundit Caroline Glick was among those cited in the manifesto of accused Oslo bomber Anders Behring Breivik. Now Glick has a screed in the Jerusalem Post of July 28 with the oxymoronic title “Breivik and totalitarian democrats.” In it, she acknowledges that she was cited by Breivik, and frets that this demonstrated commonality of ideas is being used to discredit opponents of multiculturalism:
Breivik particularly noted writers who focus on critical examinations of multiculturalism and the dangers emanating from jihadists and the cause of global jihad. He also cited the work of earlier political philosophers and writers including John Stuart Mill, George Orwell, John Locke, Edmund Burke, Winston Churchill and Thomas Jefferson.
Breivik’s citation of conservative writers (including myself and many of my friends and colleagues in the US and Europe) has dominated the public discussion of his actions. The leftist-dominated Western media—most notably the New York Times—and the left wing of the blogosphere have used his reliance on their ideological opponents’ arguments as a means of blaming the ideas propounded by conservative thinkers and the thinkers themselves for Breivik’s heinous acts of murder…
Today, those who seek to silence conservative thinkers by making a criminal connection between our writings and the acts of a terrorist are doing so in pursuit of patently illiberal ends, to say the least. If they can convince the public that our ideas cause the mass murder of children, then our voices will be silenced.
Not so. First of all, how can Glick accuse progressives of making spurious connections between Breivik and “conservative thinkers” when Pat Buchanan said “Breivik may be right”? Read it and weep:
As for a climactic conflict between a once-Christian West and an Islamic world that is growing in numbers and advancing inexorably into Europe for the third time in 14 centuries, on this one, Breivik may be right.
Furthermore, as we just pointed out after Israel passed a law forbidding advocacy of a boycott or sanctions, cultural chauvinism and the liberal tradition (in the good sense of the word—meaning pluralism, equal rights, etc.) are ultimately incompatible. “Totalitarian democracy” is an oxymoron which is beloved by freedom-haters of the left and right. Multiculturalists are the true guardians of the democratic tradition.
Meanwhile, more paranoid Judeophobes are coming out of the woodwork to assert a Mossad “false flag” conspiracy behind the Oslo attacks. The latest is Stephen Lendman—whose odious screeds, with names like “The Oslo Attacks: More False Flag Evidence,” have been picked up by the right-wing Veterans Today and Rense.com as well as (disappointingly) left-wing sites like IndyBay. And what is his “evidence”? Here’s a typical sample:
…Friday’s attack occurred on the 65th King David Hotel (1946) bombing anniversary, carried out by (pre-Israeli) Irgun terrorists led by future prime minister Menachem Begin.
By this logic, perhaps 9-11 was carried out by Chilean fascists.

Norway mass murderer sues state over prison conditions
A Norwegian court on Jan. 8 began hearing a lawsuit brought by Fjotolf Hansen, previously known as Anders Behring Breivik, over his prison conditions. Breivik sought to sue the Norwegian Ministry of Justice, alleging that the prison conditions imposed on him violated his human rights.
Previously, in 2016, Hansen brought a similar lawsuit to the European Court of Justice (ECJ), seeking to challenge the prison conditions, including his solitary confinement, his subjection to body searches, the control over his correspondence and the failure to take into account his mental vulnerability. Hansen argued the conditions constituted a breach of the European Convention on Human Rights. The ECJ ruled against him, stating that the application was “manifestly ill-founded.” (Jurist)
