Eclipsed from the headlines by the ongoing carnage, there is an active
civil resistance in Iraq that opposes the occupation, the torture regime
it protects, and the jihadi and Ba'athist 'resistance' alike.

I agree with much of the information reported here. However, I think its irresponsible to claim "politically-motivated killings were commonplace in 2007" without documenting that claim. I do not dispute that there are politically motivated killings in El Salvador. But, unless my understanding of the word is completely off, they are not "commonplace".
If we are, indeed, moving in the direction of further political violence, it is irresponsible to make these kinds of claims and not back them up. We should be sufficiently alarmed by the reality and motivated to stop the momentum towards further violence without making claims that can easily debated as exaggerated and then dismissed by those who are less inclined to seek change.
Furthermore, without the independent objective investigation into the murder of the mayor of Alegria, as demanded by civil society and the left, we need to be very careful suggesting the implication that this murder was politically motivated. It is possible, and it is possible that it was not, that is was an investigation is for. Sadly, in El Salvador an objective and professional investigation is unlikely.

The inconvenient facts and unanswered questions surrounding the attacks are legion, but the endemic sloppiness of the self-styled "researchers" is delegitimizing the entire project of critiquing the "official version." The ostentatiously named "Truth movement" is not clearing the air, but muddying the water.
