The answer you entered to the math problem is incorrect.

Shlomo rocks!

Shlomo is right on the money. His review echoes what I wrote in my review of this film, which I've titled, "Apropagando" at http://www.epinions.com/content_289384205956

I salute Shlomo for getting it right. Gibson's bad history is more than just the typical Hollywood disdain for history. Gibson has an agenda. The man is clearly a lot darker than people think. He has spent much of his career playing edgy characters with split personalities who "snap." Just look at Mad Max, Lethal Weapon, Braveheart, Payback, The Patriot - even that heart-of-darkness confession in Signs. In Conspiracy Theory, he actually plays a right-wing nut who turns out to be right (as proved by the government's attempt to shut him up by knocking him off).

Why would an actor go to such lengths to play the same kinds of roles if there weren't an element of truth in the decision to say, "This is what appeals to me?"

Gibson can't possibly just be this ignorant of Mayan history. At first glance, he's a walking blonde joke of historical mistake, all dolled up in subtitles and native actors. His use of the Will Durant quote is an indication that this is not simply a "thrill ride." This was a vanity project grounded in Gibson's need to convert the rest of us to his righter-than-the-Pope Catholicism.

The real message of Apocalypto is a counter-apology, one that says the Spanish Conquest (nasty mess that it was for the Catholic Church, which endorsed it at the time) was really God's cleaning crew. The Spanish, it seems, were liberating the death camps like some 7th Army from Seville.
