Eclipsed from the headlines by the ongoing carnage, there is an active
civil resistance in Iraq that opposes the occupation, the torture regime
it protects, and the jihadi and Ba'athist 'resistance' alike.
Military historians are raising eyebrows at comments made by President Bush at dedication ceremonies Friday of a new Marine Corps museum in Quantico, Virginia.
Speaking to a crowd largely composed of both active duty and former marines, Mr. Bush said "Years from now, when America looks out on a democratic Middle East growing in freedom and prosperity, Americans will speak of the battles like Fallujah with the same awe and reverence that we now give to Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima."
Historians noted that nearly 7,000 Marines died in the fight for Iwo Jima in World War II. More than 20,000 Japanese soldiers were killed.
The fight for Guadalcanal included about 60,000 combatants.
In Fallujah, 92 Americans lost their lives in the 2004 fighting to wrest control of the Iraqi city from insurgents who had made it a stronghold.

Propaganda:
The inconvenient facts and unanswered questions surrounding the attacks are legion, but the endemic sloppiness of the self-styled "researchers" is delegitimizing the entire project of critiquing the "official version." The ostentatiously named "Truth movement" is not clearing the air, but muddying the water.
